Its always good to have a 3Dec 16 2005PreLaw and Legal
Its always good to have a 3.7 and a 1200+ SAT. But I think I am the oddball. I transferd with an A.A. from South Seattle Community College. When I applied I had a 2.71 and I did not submit my SAT or ACT (which I should have done!). However I am a very talented writer, and i wrote a powerful personal statement. So pretty much, I closed my eyes and threw a hail mary applying here and I got a touchdown. UW is not all about numbers, it is also about your personal statement, extracurricular activities, and experience.

If you are in high school, keep your gradesJun 21 2005Finance
If you are in high school, keep your grades up! The year when I applied 50-60% of the incoming freshmen's GPA's were between a 3.5 and a 3.9. Also, they really look up to people who have participated in various extracurricular activities.
ACT: 30 SAT: 1000 Male
Many people perceive the UW as an easy schoolApr 22 2005Psychology
Many people perceive the UW as an easy school to get into, but with more students applying to this school year after year, this does not prove to be so. I know plenty of people with a 3.6+ GPA and a SAT score of 1200+ above who have been deferred or denied admissions, while students with lower statistics have been offered admissions. UW looks for more than a great transcript or a great SAT score (though one does need decent scores). They use a holistic approach to the application, reviewing course loud, difficulty in courses, grade trends, personal obstacles, coming from a low socio-economic background, and so forth. The personal statement is especially criticial because it gives the admissions officers a more personal sense of who you are and you stand out from the other students.

Personally, I think it was the personal statements that really helped me get into the UW. I wrote the mandatory one and optional one. Be sure to write the optional one! I was also involved with a lot of extra curriculars and while my grades weren't spectacular, they were above par.

Get a 99 admission index rating. In other words, the only thing that matters is getting a better than average gpa and SAT. Good luck...
